Beyond Our Bubble:  Village to Village

Village to Village expands the reach of Beyond Our Bubble to the international level. To many, Africa is a distant and unimaginable land of poverty and wilderness. There is more than an ocean between the U.S. and Africa; there is a chasm of understanding and a separation of people far greater than the miles that lie between us.

Goal
It is our goal to close the gap: to break down the barriers of distance and difference: to show that, though we are on opposite sides of the world, at the core we are all the same. We accomplish this by developing unique, personal connections between individuals in Oregon and their peers in rural Kenya.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
Community Connections are the primary focus of the Village to Village project. We are working to identify and connect individuals, groups, and businesses in Lake Oswego, Oregon to those in Taru, Kenya of similar interest, expertise and position. With the help of Kenya Keys and volunteers in the bush, the Village to Village project is establishing communication channels through which people in Lake Oswego can reach out to their peers in Taru. By opening a  connection of communication   between   individuals   and   groups  on  opposite  sides

If you are interested in pursuing a Community Connection for yourself or your organization or business, please let us know here.

Background
During their trip to Africa with the organization Kenya Keys in 2010, Jacob and Deborah lived amongst the people of rural Kenya, developing a deep, personal connection with the students, families, community leaders and business-people of the village. Upon their return to the States, they were  determined  to bring this connection to others in the

a population barely scraping by on the corn they grow themselves – it couldn’t be any more different from Middle America. Yet despite the incredible differences in our lifestyles, we discover that we are the same. There, in those mud huts, amongst the dry African bush, are the teachers, the nurses, the shop owners; a community just like ours here in the States. Isolated by poverty, the people of Taru have little opportunity to connect with, and experience the world beyond the village. Connecting to a peer in America is a life-changing opportunity.
