The Green Teens is the environmental component of Beyond Our Bubble. Addressing environmental issues can seem like a monumental task. Although the challenges may be extensive, there is an inexhaustible wealth of opportunity for involvement in solutions: from sustainable practices at home to environmental activism in the community.
Goal
Our goal is to provide the motivation and opportunity for teens in our community to become involved in environmental solutions. We accomplish this by fostering student groups that work to improve our local environment, educate and engage our youth in current environmental issues, and participate in the global environmental movement.
Improving Our Local Environment
Helping our earth starts in our own back yard. The Green Teens organize and participate in a number of service projects throughout the northwest aimed at revitalizing natural spaces in our community. The team works in Bryant Woods Nature Park to remove invasive species, and participates in local SOLV cleanups. These projects have an immediate impact on the local landscape, and help improve our local environment. For information on upcoming Service Days, check out our Upcoming Events.
Educating Youth
The Green Teens work diligently to educate younger students about current environmental issues and provide opportunities for their involvement. Utilizing Earth Week as a catalyst, we deliver present-

Community Projects
The Green Teens believe that raising awareness is the first step toward creating a better future. We work diligently to educate both students and the community through events, presentations and projects. These have included a community-wide Earth Event, the distribution of compact fluorescent bulbs through the Bright Idea Program, and the Don’t Be Idle Campaign to stop car idling at the local schools. For a complete description of our past Community Projects, click here.
Working alongside other local, national and international groups, the Green Teens are helping to grow enthusiasm for the protection of our environment in people here at home - and around the world.

An interactive presentation, designed by the Green Teens, is conducted annually by high-school students at the local elementary schools. Middle-school students are also actively involved through a competitive ivy pull at Tryon Creek State Park. The Earth Week programs are designed to show students the impact they have on their planet, and empower them to become involved in the broader environmental movement.
their activities, and generate student involvement. Student mentors are assigned groups during Earth Week of each year (late April) and work with teachers and parent volunteers over the next 12 months to better involve young students in enriching and meaningful environmental activities.
Global Involvement
The environmental movement goes beyond just a local park or a single town: it's a national and global effort involving people around the world. The Green Teens is a conduit for students interested in being involved in the broader environmental movement. Green Teens members have participated in local, state and national events including the Polar Bear Plunge, the 350.org rallies, the Candlelight Vigil for Climate Change, the national Powershift conferences, and the Sierra Student Coalition training program (SPROG).
